Getting to Know: Chris Troupe, Software Engineer

Tell us about yourself.

I am a Cloud Architect at Finotta, with over three years of experience in the industry. My passion for cloud development continues to grow with each passing day. In my leisure time, I enjoy playing board games, learning new things, and spending time with friends. I am dedicated to continuous learning and growth and always seeking new challenges and opportunities to enhance my skills.

How did you get started in your career?

I commenced my professional journey by obtaining an introductory certification from Amazon Web Services (AWS). The certification served as a gateway to the world of cloud computing, which I eagerly pursued. To date, I have earned ten certifications, augmenting my knowledge and expertise in the field.

Who has been your biggest inspiration?

While I don’t have a specific source of inspiration, I draw inspiration from almost everyone around me. My parents, siblings, girlfriend, friends, and even my young niece and nephew, all inspire me to be the best version of myself.

What is the best part of your job?

Working with a team that genuinely wants the best for everyone is the best part of my job. The team's camaraderie and care for one another make the working environment enjoyable. Additionally, I find great joy in software development and being on the cutting edge of technology with this startup.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about my faith, family, friends, exploring the culinary scene in KC, board games, technology, reading, health, podcasts, and many other things.

What is the most challenging part of your job?

Building something that has never been done before is the most challenging part of my job. I frequently work on projects with issues that have never been solved before, and sometimes, one project has 20 roadblocks. It takes a lot of motivation to keep going, knowing that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

How do you think we can improve positive work cultures in the fintech industry?

At Finotta, we are promoting a positive work culture, and the team is amazing. Experimenting with a four-day workweek could be a positive move, and data seems to support its benefits in almost all realms.*

What advice would you give someone who is starting their career in your field?

I would advise someone to invest in themselves. Most of the time, nobody will hold your hand and guide you through life, telling you what to do. You have to figure it out on your own. It's okay to fail and try something that you don't like, but it's not okay not to learn from the experience. The internet has numerous incredible resources that you can use to learn anything. Utilize them wisely.

What resources would you recommend?

Udemy has been my best resource by far in cloud computing.

What are some rules you live by?

My rule of life is encapsulated in one phrase: "Let all that you do be done in love."* Everything else follows from that.
